    Lala Longganisa

This is the third of eight grilled cheese sandwiches I prepared for the party I hosted for Foodbuzz 24×24 last August. It’s called Lala Longganisa.  Longganisa or longaniza is a sausage similar to a chorizo. Here in the Philippines, several regions known for producing tasty longanizas flavor them with indigenous spices. For example, those from Lucban, Quezon are known for the prominent garlic flavor. Those from Pampanga are usually salty with a hint of sour. My favorite version would be something called longaniza hamonada/hamonado which has a distinctive sweet taste. Longanizas from the Philippines are sometimes made of pork or beef, and now we even have some made of chicken,…

    Señor Sardinas

This is the second of eight grilled cheese sandwiches I prepared for the party I hosted for Foodbuzz 24×24 this month. This sandwich is called Señor Sardinas. For this sandwich, I used Spanish sardines, the store-bought kind 🙂 Spanish sardines can actually be tomato-based but here in Manila, when we speak of Spanish sardines, we think of the kind that uses olive oil as a base. Making this sandwich is as easy as 1-2-3. Seriously.

Adobo King, Grilled Cheese Sandwich w/ Adobo Shreds

This post is about one of the eight grilled cheese sandwiches I prepared for the party I hosted for Foodbuzz 24×24 this month. This sandwich is called Adobo King. Adobo is a dish that is entirely different from the Spanish marinade is also called adobo. In Filipino cuisine, while there are many variations of the adobo dish, the common ground would be that the meat is simmered in a mixture of soy sauce and vinegar. In my case, I cook my adobo three ways just like what I did for my very first party for Foodbuzz 24×24. Using my own soy sauce-vinegar-laurel leaf-garlic mix, I usually marinate the meat [usually…

    Foodbuzz 24×24: Grilled Cheese Overload

I’m so excited to tell you that after more than a month of not cooking, I re-conquered my kitchen only for Foodbuzz 24×24. I kinda miss cooking and figured that being in a Cohen diet program should not really deter me from doing what I love to do. I feel so thankful that Foodbuzz allowed me to participate in this month’s 24×24 where 24 foodies from all over the world are to prepare 24 over-the-top meals within 24 hours. My contribution to Foodbuzz 24×24 this month is called Grilled Cheese Overload. August is considered as the National Sandwich month and also the National-Back-to-School month. I figured that hosting a grilled cheese…

    Strawberry-Banana Nutella & PBJ Panini

Hubby has been supportive enough to join PinoyFoodista ‘s February Cooking Challenge, Strawberries in a Sandwich knowing how much work my friend Pia and I put into it 🙂 He had this idea of a sweet strawberry sandwich combining his favorites and of course, I helped him with the preps and assembly. He loves bananas with Nutella, and strawberries with peanut butter and he had this great idea of combining all of these in a sandwich. At first I’m a bit worried at how things will come out but in the end, I loved every last crumb of his sandwich. It’s so good and easy to make, anyone who loves…

    Quick & Easy Chicken Quesadillas

If you noticed, I have been making a lot of easy and simple chicken dishes lately. And to save myself from getting bored with chicken breast fillets, I try as much as I can to make different dishes out of it. One of my favorite simple chicken dishes to make is chicken quesadillas. Quesadillas are always popular at home because they’re tasty and flavorful, and also very easy to munch on. You can just pick up a slice and enjoy it as you read a book or watch TV or do whatever. I personally love making quesadillas because they’re easy to assemble and they’re really a great way to make use of items…

    Filipino-style Soft Beef Tacos

I knew that my weekend won’t be devoted to cooking 🙁 I had to finish a project for my management class. But I don’t want to let the weekend go by without cooking at least one easy dish. And the easiest I could think of last Saturday was soft tacos. I call this dish Filipino-style Soft Beef Tacos. It’s not authentically Mexican (sorry Mexican food fans) but the elements are there. It’s Filipino-style because it’s less spicy and a little sweet. Also, if you will notice, I did not include any greens. I had too much salads and cucumbers last week, I just wanted to eat meat. Ground beef galore.…

Instant BBQ Chicken Pizza… Well, Almost

There’s a small pizzeria in our condo and the smell of pizza cookin’ in the oven would always fill the lobby all the way down to the basement parking. I don’t like their pizza but the smell of fresh pizza crust is like no other. It makes you crave for pizza even if you’re full. This evening, I re-created that smell in our very own unit 🙂 I was surprised at how easy it is to make pizza and thankful at that because it will help me clean up my ref and make something good out of our leftovers! Here’s my humble take on CPK’s Barbecue Chicken Pizza made with…

    Homemade BBQ Burger

Sometime 6 years ago, hubby and I got to watch Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle movie.  Within the same year, I saw this cooking show (I forgot the title) which featured how White Castle burgers are cooked. According to the show, the burger patties have holes in them and are cooked on top of the onions that are spread on the pan. Fine, sounds easy enough. I made my own “white castle” burgers. But they tasted… well, uhm… like.. phew.. Crap. Epic. Failure.  And last night was redemption time, baby! Trust me, my juicy burgers will give White Castle a run for their money 🙂
