Bananas Foster

Bananas are a staple at the fruit basket in our kitchen. I personally love bananas and I constantly experiment on recipes that will make use of them. I mix them with ground beef for some Arroz Cubano, or make desserts like Banana Cream Pie, or roll them inside a phyllo and make Banana Fritters. But there’s this banana dessert that I love to make because of its simplicity. I bet you all know Bananas Foster 🙂

  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 + 3 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2-3 tbsp. milk or cream
  • 2-3 tbsp. banana liqeur (optional)

Mix the bananas with ground cinnamon and set aside. In a skillet, melt butter and follow up by throwing in your sugar. Stir in the bananas and cook until caramelized. At this point, if you wish to add rum or banana liqeur, add it up and catch a flame off the stove or a lighter. Be careful and enjoy your flambe! Pour milk or cream on top before serving.

As for the bananas in the photo, I omitted the liqeur and went straight to the milk. Another way of serving it is by taking out the milk and pouring the bananas foster on top of two scoops of vanilla ice cream 🙂

It’s that easy but believe me, it is totally delicious!
