Oh my goodness! Here’s another dessert that I’m dying to tell you about!
I am NOT a huge fan of Tiramisu because I get a little bothered by that tinge of “bitter” in it. However, lucky me I found a recipe online that takes out that “bitter” and I was so pumped to try it. Then I remember this Tiramisu from Cibo where the pastry resembles Otap (or maybe it really was Otap!). Otap by the way is an oval-shaped puff pastry using a combination of flour, shortening, coconut, and sugar.
And so, I made Tiramisu when I visited my parents this weekend and used Otap instead of the usual lady fingers 🙂

This is a no-bake dessert and you can do it without any special skill required. In fact, you can do it right now! 😛
- 5 tsp. instant espresso or coffee
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 c. confectioner’s sugar
- 8 oz. mascarpone (can substitute with Ricotta), pureed until smooth
- 3/4 c. heavy cream
- 12 pcs. Otap
- 3T dark rum (optional)
- dark chocolate shavings
Dissolve espresso or coffee in 3/4 cup hot water, then chill the coffee mixture.
Next, beat the yolks and sugar for about 2 minutes. Beat in mascarpone and rum (I didn’t add rum or any coffee liqueur here). In a separate bowl, beat the cream until it holds stiff peaks. Fold it in the cheese mixture.
Get your otap (fine, or lady fingers) and dip it in the cooled espresso before laying it in your baking dish. Let your otap absorb all the liquid. When the otaps have been lined in your dish, pour in the mascarpone and cream mixture on top. Top it off with a sprinkle of dark chocolate shavings or unsweetened cocoa powder before proceeding to the next layer (otap-mascarpone mix-chocolate).
Chill before serving.
