Here’s another post that deals with leftovers. It’s called Pan De Sal Pizza 🙂
Pan de sal (“salt bread”) is a rounded bread made of flour, eggs, lard, yeast, sugar, and salt. It is the favorite bread in the Philippines and the best part of the day to have one is early in the morning. However, since we’ve been seeing some stores that sell freshly-baked pan de sal all day long, we can practically eat pan de sal any time of the day now! 🙂 My favorite resto that offers everything pan de sal is of course, The Bread Bag Pandesal Bar.
For the pan de sal pizza, we’ll need:
- about 2 slices of cooked ham, cut into 9 cubes per slice
- about 3 pieces of longganisa (Philippine chorizo)
- chopped tomatoes
- chopped onions
- 5-6 pieces of small pan de sal, halved
- grated quick melting cheddar
- pizza sauce
It’s up to you to add everything you like, you know how pizza works. If you don’t have pan de sal, any bread will do!
For the sauce, I used Del Monte Sweet Pizza Sauce. It’s available at your local grocery store.
Pre-heat the oven to 350F.
In a baking sheet, arrange your halved pan de sal breads. Scoop up a teaspoon of the Del Monte Sweet Pizza sauce and spread it on the pan de sal. Meanwhile, cook your ham and longganisa in a non-stick pan.
For the ham pizza: top with ham slices, tomatoes and grated cheddar.
For the longganisa pizza: top with longganisa slices, onions, and grated cheddar.
Bake for about 5 minutes or until cheese has melted. You can toast it according to your preference but in my case, I still like the bread soft so 5 minutes was enough for me. If you don’t have an oven, you can use an ordinary oven toaster.
This is perfect for snacks or merienda but in a household with heavy-eaters, I served it for breakfast. And when I say heavy-eaters, I just meant to include myself and my hubby 😛
Now that folks is my version of a simple Pan de Sal pizza 🙂 It’s really good. Trust me 🙂
